Twenty Four Thousand Four Hundred square feet of Production Space was constructed for this new processing plant, south of Custer, SD.
The Pacer Corporation is a Mica processing facility, constructed using a Butler Building Package, 305 lineal feet long by 80 lineal feet wide by 70 tall at the ridge.
Mica rock when processed is used in automobiles, computers, and about anything using plastics. Mica has a higher tensile strength, then using rebar in concrete. The height of the building was a key component, since the equipment used to process the mica has to pass though tall elevators between the processing procedures. This building has translucent light panels in the sidewalls to give it a natural light during the daylight hours of operation.
The project was completed in 10 months and came in under our budget estimate. Critical completion was important, since the old plant had been in operation for 75 years, and the existing building and equipment was in need of daily repairs. Once the new equipment was purchased and arrived, it had to be housed to keep dry, yet several pieces had to be installed before the roof and side panels were installed, because of the size of the equipment.
